A different Biryani – Thalassery Biryani

Was chatting with my family when we got into a mood for biryani and grilled chicken.  Thalassery seemed the best choice then. So a quick bike ride for a parcel of chicken biryani, mutton biryani andgrilled chicken

I also spoke to the proprietor of the place and he seemed very friendly and eager to ensure the customers  were happy. The staff was indeed working at a furious pace being a friday…

My thoughts…. I like Thalassery Biryani though most don’t consider it on the lines of Hyderabad or awadhi. I like its clean taste and not too spicy finish with well cooked meat…. Unlike traditional biryani the rice and meat is cooked separately and then combined together… I love their mutton biryani over the chicken…..

While waiting for the biryani and grill, I also thought the time should be ell utilized by ordering a shawarma  roll 🙂   Pretty much standard, it is a fool proof dish that only the worst can get wrong. I got my customized version with lots of pickled veggies and chillies.

Last but not the least, the grilled chicken unfortunately left a lot to be desired. It wasn’t all that cooked inside and not crispy on the outside either. These days even the smallest places get this right and it was a disappointing expectation from a good restaurant like Thalassery. I hope they improve.
