In most of South Indian weddings, the areca nut (also known as betel nuts) and the betel leaf are important symbols of love and marriage. The combination of areca nut and the betel leaf is ideal to the point that they are practically inseparable, like an idealized married couple !!

    i have seen a lot of betel nuts in taiwan, and the taiwanese chew it like crazy. it makes their teeth look bad.
