Raqs Sharqi

Err Whats Raqs Sharqi now?

Raqs Sharqi or as it’s more commonly known, Belly Dancing is one of the most misunderstood dance forms with lots of euphemisms as well as negative impressions.  Films have been portraying this dance as Cabaret or for bringing in sexual excitement…   This dance form is more sensual than sexual and requires the most stringent of discipline as well as fitness that one can possibly imagine. The control you must have over the muscles in your stomach and waist is unbelievable to the degree of impossibility.

I remember seeing this Guinness record video where a Raqs Sharqi professional dancer is able to move coins kept on her belly in unimaginable ways and directions.  Imagine controlling certain coins to move in certain ways without the use of your hands and using only the stomach muscles.  This is a revered and sought after dance in Egypt and in Middle Eastern countries..  This show was hosted to make people learn more about the dance  form… It was absolutely mesmerizing to watch as the dancers pivoted and glided through the stage moving their bodies like a poetry in motion.. This was fun to watch and an awe to behold

When you feel really low
And no solution in sight
Dance away your blues
