Mangalam Vilas – What brought us here?
So the other day we were coming back from Kerala and started around 6 am in the morning. Our plan was to stop at Salem for lunch. However when my family was sleeping, I literally flew and next we know we are in Salem at around 8:45 in time for breakfast. The last time I we had been to Mangalam Hotel near the Salem Bus Stand. Read about our experience here. So when we called them up again, we were thrilled when they said breakfast would be available. However the earlier place we went was closed and we were advised to go to the Mangalam Vilas road which is on the namakkal highway. Also the new flyover had confused Google aunty as well so we took about an hour to reach this place after all the searching and calling.
It was not wasted when we finally landed at the place. It’s way off you are coming from Coimbatore though. However, our family policy is “will travel for food !”
What we Wolfed?
- Mutta dosai – Cant go wrong with this… Dosa and eggs are a brilliant marriage
- Mutton curry – Melt in the mouth chunks of mutton with exquisitely spiced gravy. Not over, not under, just perfect.
- Chicken pichi pota fry (shredded country chicken fry) – This one is their specialty. Shredded country chicken beautifully fried with curry leaves. Its addictive, not hot (chilli) and perfect for kids as well. Of course you can ask them to customize your preference.
- Veech Porotta – This is a distant cousin of the rumali roti but crisp and made with oil
- Unlimited mutton and chicken gravies
