Hotel Usharani is part of the carnivore series where Phenomenal World covers local non veg cuisines from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka.Read on…

Thanks to a recommendation, we went to Hotel Usharani near Salem on the way to Kerala. A small shack close to the highway. The place is always packed with locals and travellers alike with a constant waiting line. I was lucky as I had a kid as well as my mom. Looking at them the hotel quickly provided us tables 🙂

Ambience

The menu in Tamil says only Non Veg food available. Curd is the only option for vegetarians 😁

What we Wolfed?

Mutton Pulao – This place is famous for it’s mutton pulao (they call it biryani but its actually a pullao) as well as non veg meals. The biryani was exquisite. Just lightly spiced to reatin the flavor with good melt in the mouth chunks of mutton.  I was really impressed by their speed and service. They were very clear that 1 plate of biryani is beyond a single persons capacity and suggested half plate.  The biryani is made with jeeragasamba rice (which I prefer to basmati any day)

Mutton Varuval – Mind blowing mutton  chunks which was cooked to perfection. The gravy was peppery and lovely with the pulao

The best ending was the thick creamy curd.. Yum

Total cost Rs. 1200
